Alyson Stoner's Movie Info - Camp Rock

About The Movie
Camp Rock is a 2008 Disney Channel Original Movie. The musical is written by Julie Brown, Paul Brown, Regina Hicks and Karen Gist. The movie is directed by Matthew Diamond and produced by Alan Sacks. On January 25, 2008, during the commercials for Minutemen it was announced that Camp Rock would debut on June 20, 2008.[2]. Camp Rock will be the first DCOM to air on ABC Family and ABC. The movie stars the Jonas Brothers and introducing Demi Lovato for her first lead role in a film.

A talented yet unsure teen who yearns to share her songs with the world, and a tempestuous young superstar who's lost his passion for music, learn to believe in themselves and to value the freedom to be who they really want to be, in "Camp Rock," a relevant, celebratory, music- and dance-filled Disney Channel Original Movie for kids and families.

Starring are Platinum-certified rockers Jonas Brothers (Joe, Kevin and Nick); singer/songwriter/actress Demi Lovato (of Disney Channel's "As the Bell Rings"); Alyson Stoner ("Cheaper by the Dozen"); Meaghan Jette Martin; Anna Maria Perez de Tagle (of Disney Channel's "Hannah Montana"); Jasmine Richards ("Naturally Sadie); Maria Canals Barrera (of Disney Channel's "Wizard of Waverly Place") and screenwriter/actress Julie Brown ("Earth Girls Are Easy").

The movie was written by Regina Hicks ("Girlfriends") and Karin Gist (Disney Channel's "Jump In!") and Julie Brown ("Medusa Dare to be Truthful") and Paul Brown. The director is Matthew Diamond ("Great Performances: Dance in America") and the cinematographer is Dean Cundey ("Who Framed Roger Rabbit," "Jurassic Park").

The story is set at Camp Rock, the acclaimed summer workshop that launched the music careers of many including the hugely popular Connect 3. Aspiring singer-songwriter Mitchie Torres, a teen from a working class family, longs to be part of it and is thrilled when her mother, a caterer, takes a job as the camp cook so Mitchie can attend camp for a discounted tuition while helping in the kitchen.

On her first day at camp, Mitchie is intimidated by the privileged kids and feels as if she doesn't fit in anywhere. She is befriended by Caitlyn, a down-to-earth girl who wants to be a music producer, and quickly dazzled by the camp's veteran members, the catty clique led by diva Tess Tyler and her friends Peggy and Ella. Mitchie even tries to impress the trio with the tale of her mother being a high-ranking executive at Hot Tunes TV and agrees to join their group as back-up singer. All the while, she keeps quiet the fact that she's also working in the kitchen.

Meanwhile, Connect 3's summer concert tour is canceled and lead singer Shane Gray is forced to return to Camp Rock by his band mates, Jason and Nate. They're hoping Shane can get his ego in check by leading a few camp classes and rediscovering his passion for music. Although Shane's displeasure is obvious at first, he is eventually inspired by the campers' enthusiasm for music. When he hears a voice singing a song that deeply affects him, he sets out to find the girl behind the beautiful voice.

While the other campers fawn over Shane, he is particularly intrigued by Mitchie who seems to appreciate him for his art, not his celebrity image. But Tess is threatened by their budding friendship and makes it her mission to expose that Mitchie is merely "the kitchen help." Ultimately, she manages to get both Mitchie and Caitlyn banned from performing at the camp's big Final Jam competition.

On the last night of camp, with Shane, Jason and Nate as judges for Final Jam, and parents and families in the audience, it's up to Mitchie to overcome her fears and step into the spotlight, while the most unsuspecting camper wins the competition.

Starring are Joe Jonas as Shane Gray; Demi Lovato as Mitchie Torres; Kevin Jonas as Jason; Nick Jonas as Nate; Maria Canals Barrera as Connie Torres; Alyson Stoner as Caitlyn Geller; Meaghan Jette Martin as Tess Tyler; Jasmine Richards as Peggy; Anna Maria Perez de Tagle as Ella; Julie Brown as Dee La Duke; Roshon Fegan as Sander; Jordan Francis as Barron and Daniel Fathers as Brown.

The world-class songwriters who contributed songs to the soundtrack are: Andy Dodd, Adam Watts, Mitch Allan, Greg Wells, Pam Sheyne, Toby Gad, Antonina Armato, Tim James, Jamie Houston, Robbie Nevil, Matthew Gerrard, Nikkii Hassman, Adam Anders and Kara Dioguardi. Emmy Award winner Alan Sacks ("Welcome Back, Kotter," "The Color of Friendship") is the executive producer. Kevin Lafferty ("Twitches," "Twitches Too," "Jump In!") is the producer. Filmed on location in Haliburton and Toronto, Canada, "Camp Rock" is from Summer Camp Productions, Ltd.

Production
The Jonas Brothers were considered for the main roles, though casting directors struggled to choose who would play teen popstar Shane Gray before the part eventually went to Joe Jonas. Brenda Song has a cameo as a girl near the lake, similar to Miley Cyrus's cameo in High School Musical 2 as a girl seen at the pool. On Disney Channel Latin America, in the Latin American version of Happy U Year, titled Celebración 2008, it showed many scenes of Camp Rock, and the song, "We Rock", with scenes of other Disney Channel Original Series and Disney Channel Original Movies as Phineas and Ferb, J.O.N.A.S. and The Cheetah Girls One World, among others.

On April 19, 2008 was the trailer premiere on Disney Channel Latin America, on April 25, 2008 was the We Rock music video premiere and on May 9, 2008 was the Play my Music music video premiere on Disney Channel Latin America. Certain scenes were filmed on location at Camp Wanakita and Kilcoo Camp in the Haliburton Highlands, Ontario, Canada. Previews of Camp Rock started being shown on April 6, 2008 during the Wizards of Waverly Place marathon. The music video for "We Rock" was shown on April 19, 2008 as a part of Disney's Night of Premieres.
